How Do We Let the Sacred Text Speak on Campuses Today?

The Bible is the central Sacred Text of Christianity. It has shaped the church throughout the centuries and God has spoken through these words from generation to generation. Yet we know that the same words that unite the Christian church are also the words that can cause division as we read and interpret the text. In the internet age, students, staff and faculty are bombarded with messages about Christianity and about what the Bible does and does not say.

How then do campus ministers and chaplains be good stewards of our Sacred Text on our campuses today?

How can the ancient Text breathe life into the conversations we have?

How can we be hospitable stewards of 'God's words' in an age of skepticism?

Join us at this years Christian Reformed Campus Ministers Association (CRCMA) Conference for a robust and imaginative conversation about being faithful stewards of the text. More Detailed Schedule to come.

Keynote Speaker

Dr. Kirsten Jeffrey-Johnson

Kirstin is a free-lance writer and lecturer on literature, theology, and the Arts.

She studied English Literature at University of Alberta, Edmonton, and Theology at Regent College, Vancouver. Her Ph.D. is from the University of St. Andrews while a member of the Institute for Theology, Imagination, & the Arts.

Kirstin's dissertation addressed the concept of Mythopoesis in the work of George MacDonald – considering the development and presentation of his understanding of Revelation and Relationality, and the theological role of Story within that context.

She writes for numerous journals in the subjects of Literature, Art, and Theology, and also lectures nationally and internationally in these areas. She was recently featured in a documentary titled 'Fantasy Makers'. - kirstinjeffreyjohnson.com

Kirsten is from the Ottawa Valley and is the host of an annual arts and theology gathering known as Linlathen - Linlathen.com

6 hours from Sarnia or Windsor

2 hours from Ottawa or Montreal

2 hours from Syracuse, NY

Flying

While it is possible to fly into Kingston, it's not a cheap option. The closest airports are Ottawa, ON, Syracuse NY and Toronto, ON. Ottawa and Syracuse are approx 2 hours away and Toronto is approx 2.5 hours. Closer to the event we will create communication to consider ride-share options, but we encourage you to begin your carpooling options today. Note that campus ministers will be driving from Southern Ontario and Ottawa directions.

Train

VIA Rail travels from Montreal or Ottawa through to Windsor and has a stop in Kingston. If you book on time it can be an affordable and lovely way to travel.
